Synopsis
In the West German province, Eastern European contract workers employed in the country's largest pig slaughterhouse are fighting for survival - and activists campaigning for their rights are fighting with the authorities. At the same time, high school students in Munich are rehearsing the play “Die Heilige Johanna der Schlachthöfe” (St. Joan of Arc of the Slaughterhouses) and reflecting on German economic structures and their relationship to them.
Interwoven with the young people's trains of thought and their engagement with the text during rehearsals, the film uses various fragments to tell the story of the conditions and facets of temporary work and labor migration in Germany.
